Evaluation of Strategic Compensation in Education

Reforming educator evaluation and compensation systems to increase student achievement is one of the most debated topics in education today. Since 2006, when the U.S. Department of Education Teacher Incentive Fund (TIF) grants were first awarded, Westat has directed its evaluation expertise toward alternative teacher compensation initiatives.

For both state and local clients, we provide objective, rigorous, multiyear evaluations that draw on the richness of combining quantitative and qualitative evaluation techniques.

Beyond fulfilling Federal requirements for summative evaluation of TIF grants, our studies supply program managers and funders with formative data enabling continuous improvement and informed decisionmaking.

The collaborative approach we take with our clients results in rigorous designs that accomplish local objectives while contributing to the broader knowledge base about promising practices in education. Through technical reports, issue briefs, and presentations, our evaluation work informs educators, administrators, and policymakers.
