Accessible Web Site Design
Westat maintains a commitment to make its clients' web sites equally accessible to all persons
regardless of their backgrounds, language skills, or special needs.
Westat's accessibility services include:
- Section 508 compliance, reviewing web pages
and architecture for adherence to legal requirements for accessibility;
- Plain language compliance, using guidelines specified in the
Federal Register (Vol. 63, No. 111, July 10, 1998) to make the content of the web accessible to
the general public;
- Translation services, making the contents of the web site available
to a growing international audience and to Americans with limited English proficiency;
- Cultural sensitivity analysis, conducting focus groups with members
of underserved populations to reduce the "digital divide";
- Outreach activities, conducting campaigns to encourage those not currently using the web
to access it for information and services; and
- Accessibility studies, conducting focus groups and in-depth interviews using
persons with vision and mobility impairments, and other disabilities.
