Westat has a reputation for thoughtful and innovative design, high quality data collection, and expert
statistical and interpretive analysis. Our staff specialists offer a wide and expanding variety of market research and
consulting services to businesses, as well as to Federal, state, and local governments.
- Westat's statistical staff has conducted methodologic research, including:
- Evaluating methods of variance estimation;
- Estimating variance in the presence of imputed data;
- Weighting adjustments with panel nonresponse; and
- Limiting data disclosure techniques.
In addition, we provide training and consultation in survey sample designs for national
statistical offices. We have developed and used a master sample to support a series of national household
surveys, sample designs for national surveys that are continuous and set in a panel format, as well as sample
designs for small- and medium-sized enterprises.
- Westat has conducted marketing research studies for industries, such as packaged goods and food
products, telecommunications, office equipment, data processing, automotive, and health services. Key methodologic
strategies have included the following:
- RDD telephone surveys of consumers;
- Scientific sampling of business establishments;
- Telephone and in-person interviews with business executives; and
- Qualitative research, including focus group interviewing.
- Westat's consulting and training have aided government, manufacturing, and service industries to implement
Total Quality Management (TQM) and Statistical Process Control (SPC). Westat has
consulted and trained clients in the United States and throughout the world. We assist
top managers and quality improvement teams to redefine responsibilities and develop best
practices. Training sessions demonstrate the use of statistical and managerial methods to understand
processes and continually improve quality.
- Westat develops and distributes WesVar, a powerful Windows-based tool for the analysis of complex
survey data, and provides consulting and training to users.
- Westat is a partner with Statistics Netherlands for the sales, technical support, and use of the Blaise
computer-assisted survey system in both the United States and Canada.
