Westat staff are presenting research on the issues of teacher preparation programs at the 27th Annual Conference of the National Association for Alternative Certification (NAAC) March 15-18, 2017, in San Antonio, Texas. The theme of this year’s conference is Pathways to Excellence: Teaching & Leading Through Effective Partnerships.

The goal of the conference is to share, learn, and network with educators from across the country who advocate for highly effective teacher and leader preparation through alternative routes.

Westat will be on hand in the exhibit area to discuss our capabilities and expertise. Staff will also be presenting as follows. See the conference schedule for more details.

Carrie Murthy. Title II Reporting for Teacher Preparation Programs.

Ms. Murthy will offer tips and support for completing reports, and will troubleshoot common reporting problems and questions, specifically highlighting issues that pertain to alternative route programs. The presentation will include a live demo of the Institutional and Program Report Card reporting system, as well as a question-and-answer session.

Darcy Pietryka and Carrie Murthy. The National Landscape of Alternative Teacher Preparation and Partnerships.

Ms. Murthy will examine national trends and the national landscape of alternative teacher preparation, sharing findings from the past 15 years of Title II data. She will highlight and discuss various types of alternative teacher preparation partnerships between states, districts, institutions, nonprofits, and other types of organizations, and will share key takeaways revealed by the data.

NAAC is the professional organization that advocates for standards-driven nontraditional educator preparation leading to effective school staffing. NAAC reviews trends and issues to inform practices and policies relevant to recruitment, preparation, certification, support, assessment, and retention of high-performing educators.
