Closing the Opportunity Gap for Underserved Students on College Readiness
By using innovative interventions, programs can implement effective strategies with local education agencies and schools that help close the opportunity gap for underserved students on college readiness. Westat staff members Jenna Scott, Ph.D., and Carrie Murthy, along with presenters from local education agencies and universities, presented on this topic at the 2019 National College Access Network Conference.
Dr. Scott and Ms. Murthy participated in a session called, Interventions for Equity in College Access and Success. Presenters addressed how highlighted interventions built staff capacity to address equity and closed opportunity and achievement gaps for underserved students, including low-income students, students of color, and English learners.
Presenters shared strategies and interventions that have been successful in a variety of geographic settings and populations, providing many examples for attendees to consider in their own work.
