David Marker Interviewed on Fun with the Maryland STEM Festival Podcast, Offers Thoughts on COVID-19 Models
David Marker, Ph.D., was featured on the Fun with the Maryland STEM Festival Podcast on April 14. Dr. Marker, a Westat Senior Statistician and Associate Director, was interviewed by Phil Rogofsky, Executive Director of the Maryland STEM Festival.
Dr. Marker talked about his career, his love of math, how he helps folks overcome their fear of math, and the importance of interpreting data to understand current events.
He offered his thoughts about understanding the models out now on COVID-19 and the importance of looking at a set of models and learning from a variety of models, “that’s when you understand it better, that’s the form of error we deal with in statistics, that it’s the modeling error not the sampling error.” He thinks states are doing a good job, but every state is different.
