Health Communication Videos Honored with Awards

Videos produced by Westat have been honored in the 2019 Telly, Digital Health, and Communicator Awards competitions. One video is on the data from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS), and the other series of videos are on teen pregnancy prevention.

“What Is YRBS?”: Telly Bronze Award; Digital Health Merit Award

For the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Westat produced this video to express the benefits of CDC’s YRBS to the health of our nation’s teens.

The Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH) promoted the video on social media and encouraged partners to share it as part of the 2018 YRBS data results release. Out of all DASH’s Twitter promotions for the latest YRBS release, this video garnered the most engagements. Excerpts from the video were also used to create digital shorts for the 2019 “#WhyYRBS” promotion, which focuses on why YRBS matters for students in schools.

“Momentos”: Silver Award of Distinction, Communicator Award

Westat produced a series of 3 videos (in English and Spanish):

The videos were developed for Innovation Next, a project of Power to Decide. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Adolescent Health provided grant funding to Power to Decide. Small teams were tasked to use design thinking to find a technological solution to teen pregnancy prevention.

Westat designed a weekly text message program for Spanish-speaking parents, providing practical advice for communicating with their children about sexual health.
