Monitoring of Algae Blooms Featured at 2020 Virtual Industrial Hygiene Conference
How are exposures to harmful algae blooms assessed for U.S. surface waters? Westat’s Susan Viet and co-authors will present their methods on a poster at the virtual American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Expo (AIHce) 2020, June 1-3, 2020.

As part of the Environmental Protection Agency’s effort to characterize such exposures, Westat collected air and water samples adjacent to the shore at a public beach. Observations of human activities were made every hour throughout the sampling period, characterized by type of contact with water. Initial results indicate that the sampling protocols allow for quantitation of cyanotoxins and endotoxin exposures, and associated human activity.
