National Domestic Violence Hotline: Providing Support to Family and Friends

The National Domestic Violence Hotline (The Hotline) provides crisis intervention to those affected by relationship abuse. Westat and its subcontractor, EMT Associates, developed a theoretical framework for services provided to family and friends of victim/survivors who contact The Hotline. This work builds upon earlier work to develop a theoretical framework for services provided to victims/survivors contacting The Hotline.

Results of project include:

  • New theoretical framework illustrating how The Hotline can support family and friends of those affected by relationship abuse
  • Key components of an effective intervention for supporting the family and friends of those affected by relationship abuse
  • Briefs that help domestic violence practitioners, research, and academic communities understand the process of developing the theoretical framework
