National Seat Check Saturday = September 21: Westat Staff to Help Secure Child Seats

Car crashes are one of the leading causes of death for children under the age of 13 in the United States. The proper use of car seats, booster seats, and seat belts can prevent deaths and injuries among our youngest vehicle occupants. To promote safety in our communities, National Child Passenger Safety Week is from September 15-21, 2019, and concludes with National Seat Check Saturday on September 21, 2019.

For Seat Check Saturday, Westat staff will be on hand for the event at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Washington, DC, 10 am to 1 pm. Our staff includes 2 members of Westat’s Center for Transportation, Technology & Safety Research who are certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians.

We will work alongside technicians from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, car seat manufacturers, U.S. Capitol Police, the District Department of Transportation, and Safe Kids Worldwide to educate parents and help children travel safely.

The event is sponsored by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association and the Manufacturers Alliance for Child Passenger Safety.
