Westat to Design, Implement Survey of Doctorate Recipients (SDR)
Westat has won the contract to design and administer the Survey of Doctorate Recipients (SDR) 2019 and 2021 cycles for the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES), National Science Foundation. The contract is valued at $19 million.
The SDR, conducted biennially since 1973, provides demographic, education, and career history information from individuals with a U.S. research doctoral degree in a science, engineering, or health field. It provides data useful in assessing the supply and characteristics of such doctorates employed in educational institutions, private industry, and professional organizations, as well as in federal, state, and local governments.
A key focus of the contract will be extending work to create a sustainable, fully longitudinal cohort component of the SDR with associated longitudinal weights. In addition, Westat will conduct methodological research that focuses on improving data quality, timeliness, and cost efficiency for survey activities.
“Westat looks forward to the opportunity to work with NCSES to enhance the cross-sectional and longitudinal capabilities of SDR, and improve the relevance and utility of these data to policymakers and researchers,” notes J. Michael Brick, Ph.D., Westat Senior Vice President, Statistical Sciences and Research.
