Shawn Petty, M.P.A., a Westat Senior Study Director and training/development manager, has been named a National Afterschool Matters Fellow. The fellowship is based on a partnership between the National Institute on Out-of-School Time (NIOST) at the Wellesley Centers for Women (WCW) at Wellesley College and the National Writing Project (NWP). Funding is provided by the Robert Bowne Foundation.
Mr. Petty oversees the creation and implementation of education training courses. He leads a team of instructional designers, trainers, and technical assistance consultants at Westat. As a Fellow, he will develop a research project and write for the journal Afterschool Matters.
“I am so excited for the opportunity to participate in this fellowship,” Mr. Petty said. “Afterschool programs are so vital for the welfare of youth, and as a Fellow, I will be able to share that importance with a broad audience. I consider myself very fortunate to have this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of youth nationwide through the NASM Fellowship.”
