Westat has moved up the ranking of the annual BGOV200 Federal Industry Leaders, reaching #120 out of the top 200 companies for 2016. The list is published by Bloomberg L.P., a financial services, media, and technology company. The rankings are based on fiscal 2016 data for value of unclassified prime contracts awarded across all government agencies in the U.S.
Getting on this list and moving up the ranking for 2016 depended on companies’ ability to respond in a climate of tightened budgets, strategic shifts, and technological transformation, according to Donald Thomas of Bloomberg. Findings include that federal spending in defense system categories was more than previous years, and spending remained in the positive range for research and development and knowledge-based services.
Another factor in managing business in this challenging environment was activity in mergers and acquisitions. Bloomberg found that companies improved their position on the ranking by acquiring companies that brought existing access to customers rather than developing that capacity in house.
