A Westat team of IT experts was a joint winner in the Medidata Symposium Hackathon, which was held in Phoenix, Arizona, as part of the annual Medidata Symposium, October 17-19, 2016. The event was an application design and coding competition sponsored by Medidata and provided a great opportunity to demonstrate Westat’s IT capabilities to the more than 500 symposium attendees.
The Westat team’s project was to build a proof-of-concept application to integrate a patient registration portal to Medidata’s randomization tool, called Balance. The team worked for 3 days and demonstrated its work to a panel of judges during the semifinal and finals. The judging criteria included creativity, completeness, use of the Medidata platform, user experience, and business relevance.
At the event’s “Hackathon Reveal,” the Westat team was selected as a joint winner with another team. The Westat team consisted of Ravi Rajaram, Vikram Gopu, Vanitha Chockalingam, Mangayarkarasi Thiyagarajan, and Max Lin. The competition helped the Westat team to get to know the Medidata product experts within the Medidata company, as well as those in other health and pharmaceutical companies.
In addition, Ravi Rajaram presented an abstract: A Novel Approach to Leverage Rave’s Configurable Data Sets (CDS) and Streaming Report Functions to Export Clinical Data to a Multi-Tab Excel File.
