Brenda Leath has received the Dr. Diane Adam’s Founder’s Award for Outstanding Leadership. The award was presented by the Health Informatics Information Technology (HIIT) Section of the American Public Health Association (APHA) at the 2017 APHA annual meeting in November.
This award recognizes an HIIT section member for
- Outstanding commitment
- Tireless service and support of the HIIT Section
- Dedicated leadership
- Promotion of HIIT programs nationally
Ms. Leath established and directs Westat’s Center on Health Disparities & Health Equity Research. The center engages multidisciplinary researchers on projects that address social determinants of health.
In 2016-17, Ms. Leath moderated Westat’s health equity roundtable series Cross-Sector Innovations to Achieve Health Equity. These four events brought in experts to share research and real-world efforts that target eliminating health disparities and improving health outcomes.
Each event, live streamed on Westat.com, was free and open to the public. Stakeholders, policymakers, students, and others were encouraged to contribute to the discussion.
The Founder’s Award, established in 2014, is named after Diane L. Adams, M.D., M.P.H., founder and chair emeritus of the HIIT Section. The award honors her for her initiative, dedicated leadership, vision, and continued value in forming the HIIT Section.
