Shawn Petty

Principal Research Associate


Shawn Petty is a Principal Research Associate and Project Manager for Education Studies. He oversees the creation and implementation of education training products that incorporate the latest trends in professional development. Petty leads a team of instructional designers, trainers, and performance coaches. Using evidence-based programs and practices and a mixture of technological tools (including AI, social media, and gamification), he delivers high-quality training, targeted performance coaching and quality assurance for the Texas Education Agency’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) Program.

Before joining Westat, Petty was already an established and recognized leader in the out-of-school time field. Working with one of Houston’s largest nonprofit out-of-school time entities, he served as project director for 9 21st CCLC programs in the Klein Independent School District; these centers had a staff of more than 100 that served over 1,500 students daily. In previous work as a program coordinator for the Harris County Department of Education’s Cooperative for After-School Enrichment, he managed and facilitated 21st CCLC centers and partnership projects in 26 various school districts and 80 campuses. His responsibilities ranged from budget reconciliation to program development.
