How can global HIV programs improve and maximize impact?

Improving HIV prevention and treatment programs by expanding operations research and implementation science

The President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) Division of Global HIV and Tuberculosis (DGHT) help resource-constrained countries prevent HIV; improve treatment, care, and support; and build capacity and infrastructure.

Westat is supporting CDC in activities that further expand implementation science research capacity among local research organizations, helping to optimize service delivery and maximize services.

Westat is performing site monitoring visits for CDC-funded operations research studies.

We are conducting up to 40 site monitoring visits to the PEPFAR countries: Lesotho, Uganda, Nigeria, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Vietnam, Zambia, Rwanda, and Botswana.

We are also supporting the CDC in developing

  • A plan of operations
  • An orientation and training curriculum for CDC field offices in support of expert oversight of local PEPFAR studies

This operations research and implementation science activity is critical to understanding best practices to improve and maximize the impact of HIV programs.
