How do we create messages that are accurate, understandable, and culturally competent?
Supporting NHLBI's health education and research information dissemination
Challenge
Heart disease and stroke are among the leading causes of death in the United States. The proliferation of traditional and social media channels, has made it challenging to reach diverse audiences with heart health messages.
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s (NHLBI’s) Office of Science Policy, Engagement, Education, and Communications must break through the clutter with evidence-based health education programs that engage stakeholders and deliver messages that are accurate, understandable, and culturally competent.
Solution
- Westat is working with NHLBI to develop a comprehensive framework that will guide the development of the Institute’s health education programs on a range of topics, including heart health, obesity, COPD, sickle cell anemia, and more.
- We are conducting research to guide the integration and expansion of NHLBI’s heart health education program.
- We are identifying and engaging new national partners to help NHLBI amplify the reach and impact of its health messages.
The Results
- This project will develop and implement integrated health education programs designed to reach diverse audiences with information about heart, lung, blood, and sleep disorders.
