I'd like to share a message for our clients and partners as we continue the fight against COVID-19, and deal with uncertainty about how long the threat will continue. Many of you play a vital role in managing the effects of the COVID-19 crisis on people in our healthcare, education, justice, and employment systems. Whether tracking the spread of the virus in public health departments, investigating treatments at research universities, communicating critical messages in local districts, supporting those who face economic hardship in workforce development programs, or helping teachers succeed at engaging kids remotely, you are on the frontline. Whatever your mission at this difficult time, please know that Westat stands ready to support you with the data, the scientific rigor, and the problem solving you've come to expect from us. We may be working differently these days, but I couldn't be prouder of the way our experts have applied their ingenuity to respond rapidly to our clients' needs. First, we looked to meet existing commitments. We quickly shifted from in-person interviews to telephone data collection for ongoing projects such as our large survey on medical expenditures for the Agency for healthcare Research and Quality. For the 2020 American National Election Studies, we are replacing face-to-face interviews with web, telephone, and computer-assisted personal interviews. Our experienced survey staff, using proven methods, are ensuring we deliver the data our clients expect, despite unprecedented challenges. We are now looking to use our capabilities, technologies, and relationships to support new COVID-19 initiatives. Let me give you some examples. We're supporting the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute to leverage a network of research centers and the nation's blood supply to help understand the spread of SARS COV-2 in asymptomatic populations. As the data coordinating center for CDC's VISION project, we're helping to study COVID-19, leveraging a network of health systems to quickly capture information on populations at high risk of serious outcomes. Westat is working on several fronts to understand and mitigate impacts in education as well as social and economic activity. We are sharing resources through the National Comprehensive Center Network to help educators adapt to distance learning. And we're helping after-school programs across Texas go virtual with enriching activities to engage kids stuck at home. Close to home we're conducting a survey of business owners in Montgomery County, Maryland, to better understand the business impacts of COVID-19 and what help companies need for a successful recovery. In these ways and many others we are dedicated to using our talented people and proven processes to solve hard problems. At Westat, we believe our mission to improve lives through research has never been more critical. And our commitment to serve clients through this COVID-19 fight has never been stronger. These are challenging times for all of us and there is much uncertainty about the course of this pandemic. It's understandable to find ourselves fatigued after months of taking preventative measures. Please stay the course and stay safe. Thank you.
