Jeri Mulrow, Vice President & Director, Statistics & Evaluation Sciences:I'm Jeri Mulrow. I am Vice President and the Director of the Statistics and Evaluation group at Westat. Westat is a big supporter of the American Statistical Association. ASA has, over time, really worked to support women in statistics and data science. And the Women in Statistics and Data Science Symposium, is one great example of that. Erin Wiley, Senior Statistician: WSDS is absolutely my favorite conference. The first time I went, I was surprised and just delighted to find such a robust community-feel to the conference itself. Jill DeMatteis, Vice President & Associate Director, Statistics & Evaluation Sciences: There's a sort of a mix of technical sessions where women have the opportunity or presenters have the opportunity to present their research but also sessions that are more career oriented or oriented towards work-life balance. At Westat, there's recognition of the need for work-life balance. We're very sensitive to what working parents need, individuals who are finishing up schooling, working on masters programs, or taking other coursework. Erin Wiley, Senior Statistician: The culture is flexible enough that you are allowed to make smart and intelligent decisions about what you need, what your family needs, and what's best for you. Amy Lin, Senior Statistician: Westat cherishes their employeesI've never had to pick up my kids late because of work or not being able to attend a school event or a family event, Jill DeMatteis, Vice President & Associate Director, Statistics & Evaluation Sciences: Westat is very supportive of career and professional development. In fact, when I joined Westat, I was working on my PhD, and besides just the encouragement that I got from my co-workers, there was definitely an effort to make sure that my work wasn't impinging on my personal time to work on my PhD. Andreea Erciulescu, PhD Senior Statistician: Working at Westat, I was exposed to a variety of different statistical methods and applications and not just through the day-to-day work, but also through the webinars and seminars that I attended. We are either sponsoring some of those seminars or facilitating the attendance. Kristin Chen, Data Scientist: Professional development divides into educational programming, professional associations, membership, and professional conference attendances. the reason why I stay at Westat after I complete my internship, I could first hone my technical and soft skill, but also can identify my career interests and potential career paths for me to move forward. And Westat it's a perfect platform to provide those opportunities for me Amy Lin, Senior Statistician: There's really a very rich variety of career development going on within Westat. I want to put it this way:You have more than you could ask for. Jeri Mulrow, Vice President & Director, Statistics & Evaluation Sciences: This is for the Women in Statistics and Data Science Conference, and I just want to say that that's a really nice conference. It's got a wide variety of different topics, and it just is wonderful to see the accomplishments of women at all stages in their career.
