Vice President

Fran Bents, Vice President and Director of the Center for Transportation, Technology & Safety Research, oversees the Center, a national leader in transportation research. It harnesses the latest technology to inform solutions to today’s travel challenges.

With a focus on safety, the Center’s research includes examining all elements of the transportation system. These issues include driver and passenger behavior in the lab and on the road; travel patterns across the U.S.; effectiveness of regulations, enforcement, and countermeasures; and assessment of new vehicle technologies. In addition, staff evaluate the safety of off-road vehicles and conduct geospatial assessments of health and safety factors. The Center also evaluates the usability of consumer products.
