James Jenness

Associate Director

James Jenness, Ph.D., is an Associate Director and Manager of Human Factors Research in Westat’s Center for Transportation, Technology & Safety Research. He and his colleagues design and conduct research to help clients better understand how people use and adapt to technology, particularly with regard to safety. Important focus areas are driver distraction and adaptation to advanced vehicle technologies, such as driver assistance systems and automation.

On larger research programs, Dr. Jenness often collaborates with university research labs to conduct coordinated studies. Clients include the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Consumer Product Safety Commission, Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, as well as automotive and consumer product companies.
