This is a map of the continental U.S., Hawaii, and Alaska that shows the proportion of hospitals in a state that are designated as birthing-friendly. The states are divided into 4 ranges of percentages: “less than 40%,” “between 40% and 59%,” “between 60% and 79%,” and “80% or more.”
The states that are in the “less than 40%” range are: Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. The states that are in the “between 40% and 59%” range are: Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Iowa, Minnesota, Nevada, Vermont, and West Virginia. The states that are in the “between 60% and 79%” range are: Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. The states that are in the “80% or more” range are: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, and South Carolina.
