Coleridge Initiative Launches Food for Thought Data Challenge to Link Nutrient Databases
October 13, 2021
Westat’s partner, The Coleridge Initiative, is excited to announce Food for Thought, a $50,000 prize pool competition challenging data scientists to use natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) to link food and nutrition databases on a large scale.
Can you use NLP to help the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) link data on supermarket products to nutrient databases? Can you use ML to find links between retail scanner data on what people bought and the nutritional value of the purchased products? Join the Food for Thought challenge and help USDA develop modern tools that will provide timely, objective, high-quality linked data and facilitate the agency’s research on the costs of a healthy diet.
Applications close on Sunday, November 7, 2021. Review the informational webinar and read more at Food for Thought: Using NLP and Machine Learning to Link Food and Nutrition Databases.
