Mannshardt Joins NC State Advisory Board for New Data Science Graduate Program

September 10, 2025

Liz Mannshardt, PhD, Westat’s Vice President and Director of Statistics and Data Science, has been appointed to the External Advisory Board for North Carolina State University’s Master of Science in Foundations of Data Science (MSFDS).

Launched in fall 2023, the MSFDS program is designed to prepare a new generation of data science professionals. The program emphasizes both depth and breadth, integrating coursework across 3 core disciplines—computer science, mathematics, and statistics—while incorporating professional development activities and real-world problem-solving experiences. Graduates will be uniquely equipped to address the growing demand for data-driven expertise across industries.

As a member of the External Advisory Board, Mannshardt will contribute her expertise in statistics, data science, and leadership to advancing evidence-based solutions to complex challenges and keeping the MSFDS curriculum and training aligned with the evolving demands of the data science workforce. Her participation will help ensure that the program remains aligned with the changing needs of the data science profession and the organizations it serves.
