Stacy Patchel Recognized With NIH Director’s Award for Contributions to Fibroid Research

Stacy A. Patchel, MPH, a Westat Principal Research Associate for Clinical Research, is part of the team that received a 2025 National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director’s Award in the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Group Merit category.
The award was presented during NIEHS Awards Day on May 4, 2026, and recognizes teams whose work has made exceptional contributions to advancing biomedical and public health research. The 2025 NIH Director’s Awards honor scientists whose work demonstrates innovation and excellence.
Patchel was recognized for her contributions to the Study of Environment, Lifestyle & Fibroids (SELF), an NIEHS-led research study designed to identify risk factors associated with the development of uterine fibroids. The study examines how environmental, lifestyle, and other factors may contribute to the condition, with the goal of improving understanding of fibroid development and informing future prevention efforts.
