Protecting Pregnant Women with HIV and Their Infants Against Pneumococcus

Pneumococcus is a significant danger to pregnant women with HIV and their infants. PCV-10 and PPV-23 are 2 vaccines that help protect against invasive disease like pneumococcus. New research has compared the safety and immunogenicity of PCV-10 and PPV-23 administered in pregnancy.

In a new article published in the Lancet, Westat’s Lauren Laimon, M.S., Lassallete Newton, and coauthors note that PCV-10 and PPV-23 were equally safe and immunogenic in pregnant women with HIV and conferred similar levels of seroprotection to their infants.
