Westat Helps Students Through Montgomery College Foundation Scholarships
January 21, 2020
Westat’s scholarship fund established through the Montgomery College Foundation provides support for students in the Achieving Collegiate Excellence and Success (ACES) program. Scholarships are awarded to students who meet the following criteria:
- Demonstrated financial need
- Participant in the ACES program at Montgomery College
- Minimum grade point average of 2.5
- Expressed plan to transfer after graduation from Montgomery College into a BA/BS degree program offered at the Universities at Shady Grove
Recipients of Westat’s ACES Scholarships are often the first in their families to attend college. They are very appreciative of the assistance that allows them to continue their studies and look forward to careers in teaching, nursing, medicine, and law enforcement. “Though my parents are trying their best to help further my education, this scholarship has provided less stress and will allow me to focus more on school. [It] will help me get one step closer to get my degree, so I can make my dreams a reality,” says one recipient. Another notes, “It is just an incredible feeling to know there are people out there that care, want to see this generation succeed, and want to see me succeed. All in all, thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
In a letter thanking Westat for providing the scholarships to benefit 5 students, Joyce Matthews, Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations and Executive Director for the Montgomery College Foundation, says, “In addition to offering life-changing educational opportunities, your scholarships remind our students that they are valued and supported. On behalf of your scholarship recipients, many of whom will soon be joining the Montgomery County workforce and giving back to a community that embraces them, I thank you for your generosity.”
