Eric Pan, MD, MSc, FAMIA, ACHIP, is an Associate Vice President for Clinical Research and a senior physician informaticist with more than 30 years of experience in health informatics research. He has served as project director assessing the VA’s interoperability efforts with DoD and private-sector partners. He has also led public health informatics initiatives, including field-testing CDC’s MedMorph FHIR-based electronic health record (EHR) reporting.
Pan provides clinical informatics expertise to support Health Center efforts through HRSA’s Health Information Technology, Evaluation, and Quality (HITEQ) Center and contributes to mental health informatics initiatives with NIMH’s Early Psychosis Intervention Network (EPINet).
Pan has also served as a project director and subject matter expert for the HHS Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy/Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ASTP/ONC), the NIH, HRSA’s Bureau of Primary Health Care, the VA, CDC, and AHRQ. He served in national clinical informatics leadership positions at the American Medical Informatics Association.
Before joining Westat, Pan was the senior scientist at the Center for Information Technology Leadership (CITL) and associate director of CITL’s National Library of Medicine (NLM) Informatics Fellowship Program. He led CITL’s analytic and modeling efforts and trained staff in analytic, statistical, programming, and related research methodologies. Pan has also served as an instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School and is an American Medical Informatics Association Fellow and Certified Health Informatics Professional.
