Associate Vice President

Overview

Keith Umbel is an Associate Vice President for Technology and Digital Solutions. He is an experienced leader and has more than 30 years of systems development, data management, data governance, and data analysis experience using a variety of programming languages, platforms, and software. His work includes full life-cycle project management, supervision of technical staff, monitoring of tasks and budgets, and systems security and data quality.

Umbel is the IT Project Manager for the Recipient Epidemiology and Donor Evaluation Study IV-Pediatric (REDS-IV-P) Data Coordinating Center and for the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian (PLCO) Cancer Central Data Collection Center (CDCC) along with other NIH and CDC funded projects.  He works with other CTS leaders to determine IT project resource needs and requirements. He leads Westat’s effort to automate the data management process in the cloud for medical records-based projects. He also manages 2 technical groups in CTS: for building and maintaining content management system (CMS)-based websites, and for analytics and data visualization. Umbel has also been a leader in assuring project IT systems are in compliance with government security regulations.
