Overview

Vanessa Olivo, MPH, is a Principal Research Associate for Public Health and an experienced project director with more than 20 years of experience implementing epidemiologic studies. She has conducted large studies for NIH and CDC, applying a range of study designs and methods, as well as managed domestic and international cancer epidemiology studies, including large prospective cohort studies, case-control studies, environmental epidemiology studies, and cancer studies in Latin America. She is skilled in designing study materials; managing study implementation and training; managing data collection staff; and ensuring data quality. Olivo recently led all study operations, including planning, managing, and directing the full scope of data collection, management, reporting, and analyses, for a national household transmission study of COVID-19 conducted for CDC.

Olivo has managed several federal contracts supporting multiple concurrent epidemiology studies. As a project director, she oversees budgets, subcontracts, technical progress, and contract deliverables. She also has expertise in preparing documentation for review committees (e.g., Office of Management and Budget [OMB], Institutional Review Boards [IRBs], and data use agreements). She is fluent in Spanish and has training and experience conducting focus groups and cognitive interviewing.
