Janice Machado
Janice Machado, a survey methodologist, is an Associate Director for Social Policy and Economics Research. Her work involves study design and operations, as well as methodologic research and evaluation. She oversees the development and testing of questionnaires using various techniques (e.g., cognitive and usability interviewing, expert review). She also oversees the development and implementation of smartphone and other applications to collect survey data and data collector trainings.
Machado also conducts experiments on the use of strategies, such as incentives to increase response rates and methods to reduce response burden. This work has supported the U.S. Departments of Agriculture, Housing and Urban Development, and Transportation; the Food and Drug Administration; the Social Security Administration; the National Institutes of Health; and the Environmental Protection Agency.
