We’ve returned from the 79th Annual American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) Conference, held May 15-17 in Atlanta, where we caught up with colleagues and shared insights and the latest methodologies, innovations, and findings in survey research. This important event brought together experts in public opinion and survey research with a common goal of Impacting Communities, this year’s conference theme.

Our experts presented on key topics ranging from multimode research, to computer-assisted video interviewing (CAVI), to evaluating high-burden survey requests. “AAPOR provides us with the opportunity to share important research and innovations in the field with a broad audience of like-minded professionals,” noted Eric Jodts, MA, Vice President and Deputy Director of Westat’s Research Operations. “We appreciate the chance to learn from our peers across the industry and share news and ideas.”
Presentation highlights included “Comparing a Web-Push and Telephone Surveys on Intimate Partner Violence,” presented by David Cantor, PhD; “101 Surveys in 28 Days – Evaluating Response Rates to a Demanding Request,” presented by Jodts; and multiple presentations in the “Zooming in: Developments and Research on Video Interviewing” panel, organized by Ting Yan, PhD.

We met with hundreds of you at our exhibit booth, and got the opportunity to share why we are so passionate about what we do and why we are a Great Place to Work®. We talked with a lot of people interested in what it’s like to work at Westat, our internship program, and opportunities for small businesses to partner with Westat.
Kelly Dingee, Associate Vice President of Talent Management and Development, said, “Conferences are an amazing opportunity for us to meet with researchers and share information about careers and internships. Our teams’ commitment to their work in survey research, statistics, and public policy, coupled with our collaborative company culture and workplace flexibility, make us an employer of choice.”
