Gizem Korkmaz, PhD, Westat Vice President, Data Science and AI, will present at the 10th Biennial Atlanta Conference on Science and Innovation Policy, hosted by Georgia Tech, May 14-16, 2025. This leading conference brings together scholars, policymakers, and AI experts to share top-tier empirical research focusing on science and innovation.

Korkmaz specializes in the use of novel data sources, particularly administrative records and unstructured text-based data, to conduct policy research. She is presenting methodologies and data on open-source software contributions across sectors and countries, and discussing her paper, “From GitHub to GDP: A Framework for Measuring Open-Source Software Innovation,” as part of the panel she organized, “From Metrics to Policy: The Role of Open-Source Software in Science and Innovation.” This panel will showcase global collaboration patterns and the transformative potential of open-source software to inform science and innovation policy, offering novel approaches for measurement, attribution, and economic valuation in an increasingly AI-driven economy.
