Lloyd Hicks, Jr., MS, a Westat Principal Statistical Associate for Statistics and Data Science, has been selected to receive the 2026 Washington Statistical Society (WSS) President’s Award for Distinguished Service. The award recognizes outstanding service and contributions to the statistical community.
Hicks is recognized for his expertise in the design and application of survey sampling methods for large, complex national surveys. In addition to his technical contributions, he has provided longstanding service to WSS, including serving as treasurer and effectively coordinating the organization’s election ballot system.
“Lloyd’s dedication to both the statistical profession and the broader community is exceptional,” said Liz Mannshardt, PhD, Westat’s Vice President and Director, Statistics and Data Science. “His leadership, reliability, and commitment to service have made a lasting impact within WSS and across our organization. This recognition is very well deserved.”

The award will be presented at the WSS Annual Award Ceremony and Reception on Wednesday, June 17, from 4–7 pm at Westat, 7501 Wisconsin Ave., Ste. 1000E, Bethesda, Maryland.
The annual event brings together members of the statistical community for an evening of professional recognition, networking, and discussion of emerging ideas in the field. Featured keynote speaker Travis Hoppe, Chief AI Officer at GroundVue, will present “The Statistical Imagination in the Age of AI: New Data, New Tools, and the Future of Evidence.”
