Managing teacher leadership can help state and local education agencies recruit, develop, and retain effective educators. For work with the West Virginia Department of Education, under the Region 5 Comprehensive Center (R5CC), to help promote teacher leadership in West Virginia, and beyond, Westat staff members Matthew Finster, Ph.D., and Clarissa McKithen, M.A., co-developed an online resource, Managing Teacher Leadership (available on the Region 5 Resources webpage) that presents 9 components critical to managing a teacher leadership program. Each self-paced module distills evidence-based practices into a big idea and provides examples of relevant practices, varying from general guidance and exercises to relevant tools and resources.
“The platform allowed us to curate many resources and develop an interactive approach to increase awareness and understanding of components necessary for managing a teacher leadership program,” noted lead author Dr. Finster.
