The U.S. Department of Education’s (ED’s) Promise Neighborhoods Data Dashboard—recently updated with 2024 data—helps communities and policymakers track progress that strengthens opportunities for children and families nationwide. By supporting public accountability, the dashboard enables grantees, partners, and other stakeholders to make informed, data-driven decisions that drive positive change.
Westat’s training and technical assistance team on this project, led by Lori Nathanson, PhD, plays a key role in collecting, managing, and ensuring the quality and consistency of this valuable resource. Visitors can use the dashboard to assess progress in areas such as school readiness, academic proficiency, and high school graduation rates.
With data from grantees dating back to 2012, the dashboard provides a comprehensive picture of community outcomes over time. Nathanson explained, “I appreciate seeing trends over time, especially for the cohort of grantees who started in 2012 and reported 10 years of data. For newer grantees with only 1 to 2 years of data, it helps us understand their starting points. It’s part of our job to connect peers with similar challenges and contexts so they can share solutions that start those upward trends for students and community members.”
