Westat is pleased to share details about an important upcoming event in the research community. On Monday, July 14, 2025, the Royal Statistical Society’s (RSS) Emerging Applications Section will host the following webinar:

The Power of Power: Elevating Power Analysis as a Tool for Credible, Fundable, and Impactful Research

  • When: July 14; 11 am-12:15 pm (US ET); 4-5:15 pm (UK)
  • Where: Online; Free for RSS members; £10 for non-members

Elizabeth Eisenhauer, a Westat Lead Statistical Associate, will open the session, which brings together leading voices across disciplines to explore how power analysis can inform research design, support funding success, and improve real-world impact. Eric Hedberg, formerly of Westat, will serve as discussant and helped shape the session’s lineup.

Featured speakers include:

  • Elizabeth Tipton (Northwestern University) – Generalizability and subgroup power
  • Sandra Wilson (Abt Global) – Empirical benchmarks for effect sizes
  • Elizabeth Stuart (Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health) – When power isn’t the top priority
  • Eric Hedberg (State Farm) – Discussant on policy, practice, and sample sizing

The session will include a moderated discussion and audience Q&A.

Westat is excited to participate in this thoughtful conversation on the essential—yet often underutilized—role of power analysis in the research lifecycle.
