Shawn Petty, MPA, a Westat Principal Research Associate, has been selected to serve as an Afterschool Ambassador of 2023 by the Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit advocating for access to quality afterschool programs. As one of 16 chosen in the country, Petty will serve as an Afterschool Ambassador for Texas this year. The selection of Petty for this honor is a testament to his expertise and commitment to improving the lives of students through education.
As an Afterschool Ambassador, Petty will bring his expertise in working with the Texas Education Agency to support Texas 21st Century Community Learning Centers, known as Texas ACE, which provides daily safe spaces and learning opportunities for almost 150,000 youth.
“I am looking forward to joining the Afterschool Alliance in growing support for afterschool and summer learning programs this year,” notes Petty.
