Sean Chickery, DHSc, is a Principal Research Associate for Clinical Research with nearly 30 years of experience in health care operations, including laboratory management, patient safety, and regulatory compliance with leadership roles in both military and civilian settings. His career spans clinical research, policy development, and operational planning with a focus on accuracy, compliance, and reliable results. A retired U.S. Air Force officer, he has managed laboratory operations, audits, and inspections, including several during his military service and his role at Westat.
Chickery is an analysis lead for CDC’s Virtual Network to Investigate the Effectiveness of COVID-19 and Influenza Vaccines and Evaluate the Burden and Epidemiology of Respiratory Viruses (VISION 2.0). He leads analysis, data cleaning, and extraction efforts on various project activities, applying public health informatics principles to enhance data-driven decisionmaking. He communicates progress on those activities both internally and externally. Additionally, he is the operations manager for NHLBI’s Women’s Health Research Initiative/Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine (TOPMed) initiative aimed at leveraging informatics, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) to accelerate the understanding of women’s health and diseases through the use of genomic data resources.
Chickery has also been a key contributor to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), where he managed laboratory and phlebotomy operations, ensuring compliance with federal standards. His work involved training staff, developing protocols, and maintaining operational readiness. He has also contributed to other projects for organizations such as NHLBI and NIDA.
