Ending the HIV Epidemic: Partners in Progress

November 26, 2019

As the nation works—community by community—to end the HIV epidemic by 2030, Westat is committed to doing its part to achieve this critical goal by continuing to help our clients to break new ground in HIV prevention and treatment research.

Among our recent projects:

  • Phase 3 clinical trial that led to a new treatment for people infected with multidrug-resistant HIV
  • Study of the impact of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and prevention strategies in reducing HIV risk among adolescents
  • Research to improve global HIV surveillance
  • Scientific and technical support for the Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV/AIDS interventions

We also know that communications and partnerships are key to eradicating HIV. To that end, we

  • Helped to create an award-winning national HIV testing social marketing campaign, which garnered almost a billion media impressions
  • Designed an innovative collaboration with Waze to encourage users of the app to get tested
  • Provided communications strategy and support to help reduce adolescent sexual risk behaviors
  • Developed partnerships with companies, such as CVS Health, Coca-Cola, CURLBOX, Center for Black Equity, and Home Depot, to extend HIV prevention efforts in communities across the country

Ending the HIV Epidemic in 10 years will require ongoing collaboration among the federal government, state and local health departments, community-based organizations, and companies like ours. On this World AIDS Day, Westat reaffirms its commitment to increasing HIV awareness and knowledge, speaking out against HIV stigma, and serving the people who need us the most.
