What Is Survey Research? MAPOR Webinar Features Westat Expertise

The Midwest Association for Public Opinion Research (MAPOR) is hosting a 3-webinar fall series, titled Survey Success Trilogy, on working in and navigating the survey methodology/public opinion field. The first webinar—What Is Survey Research?—will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 1pm (ET) and features Westat expertise. The webinar will inform and encourage students—undergraduates and graduates—to consider the field as a job and area of study.

Westat‘s Brad Edwards will lead the discussion with an overview of the field of survey methodology, followed by a panel discussion with 2 other Westat staff. Details about these experts follow.

Brad Edwards

Brad Edwards, Vice President and Lead Scientific/Methodology Advisor of Westat’s Survey Research Sector. Edwards has more than 40 years of experience in survey design and project management in health and health care financing, aging and long-term care, attitudinal research, and voting behavior. He has expertise in working with special respondent populations, such as the elderly, people with disabilities, youth, health care providers, and other establishments.

Michelle Amsbary

Michelle Amsbary, MS, Vice President and Survey Methodologist. With over 25 years of experience in all phases of survey research, including survey operations management, Amsbary works on design and directs surveys in energy, voting behavior, fragile families, among others, mostly but not all for the federal government.

Jesus Arrue

Jesus Arrue, MS, Survey Methodologist. Arrue has 7 years of experience analyzing survey data, conducting literature reviews on survey methodology topics, performing data analysis, and assisting cognitive interviews. Arrue supports a number of projects on quality improvement efforts, as well as video interviewing.

Another panel follows, featuring speakers across career stages who will discuss strategies for networking and job hunting in this industry.
